What To Know: The truth about Cheap Knockoff Filters
- Many third-party knockoff replacement filters are being deceptively marketed and sold on-line as having the same tri-power air purifying technology and performance as genuine Molekule filters for Molekule’s Air Pro, Mini+, and Mini Air Purifiers. Don't be fooled – They Do Not!
- Molekule recently tested many third-party filters that are being deceptively marketed and sold in the marketplace as replacement filters compatible with Molekule’s Air Purifiers (Air Pro, Mini+, and Mini). None of the knockoff filters tested met the HEPA standards for particulate capture (e.g., bacteria, dust, pollen, and mold). Equally alarming, none of the knockoff filters tested contain Molekule’s proprietary PECO coating, which is necessary to chemically interact with the Molekule Air Purifier UV light to destroy airborne pathogens.
- The knockoff filters also contain misappropriated near field communication and authentication data. Molekule took action to remove these knockoffs from Molekule’s mobile app. If you still want to use a third-party knockoff filter without HEPA and PECO in your Molekule Air Purifier on a stand-alone basis, that is your choice. Molekule will not, however, knowingly allow its connected Mobile app platform to be used by deceptive third-party knockoff filters.

Will I be able to use my Molekule Air Purifier on a stand-alone basis after September 22, if it continues to use a “knockoff filter”?
Yes. You can continue to use, at your own risk, your Molekule Air Purifier with your third-party “knockoff filter” on a stand-alone basis. If, however, your Molekule Air Purifier is using a “knockoff filter,” then it will not be able to functionally interact with the Molekule app.
Why is Molekule preventing “knockoff filters” from functionally interacting with the Molekule app?
Filter technology, indoor air quality, and security are important to us, and we believe they are to you.
Several third-party knockoff filters were tested by an independent laboratory to determine if they met the HEPA capture standard of 99.97% - All Failed.
We tested several third-party “knockoff filters” to see if they contain our proprietary PECO coating technology, which the Molekule Air Purifier UV light use to destroy organic airborne pathogens – Again, All Failed.
The above third-party filters -- the same filters that triggered Molekule’s email notice of termination of Molekule app access -- contain misappropriated authentication and security data to wrongfully gain access to your Molekule Air Purifier and then the Molekule app.
